At the end of my style cleanse, I didn’t want to go entirely wild. Yes, it was a shopping-free 45 days, but while I was ready to have some fun again, I decided it would be more responsible fun. So, I set a style budget for the month: $250.
At the start of the month, I also made a mental list of those items that were still missing from my closet: cute, cotton dresses (can’t get enough of these and can pair them with tights for Fall), brown or black fun sandals, white jeans, summer workout clothes and shorts in navy and black. I was also hoping to find some great deals as we near the end of summer, but also keep one eye on Fall to start stocking up in September.
So, when August 1st rolled around, I was more than ready. I decided to check out a boutique that had been on my “list” for some time, an adorable shop called “Mint Julep” on the LES. When I think Mint Julep, that Southern loveliness immediately comes to mind. And this version did not disappoint: great prices, a gorgeous selection of ladylike dresses and the sweetest shop girls.
I perused the regularly priced racks for some Fall ideas, but had the best time in the sale section. I saw probably five or six dresses that would’ve been perfect, but a certain Ella Moss frock caught my eye: navy (perfect brunette neutral), form fitting (thank you latest half marathon training!) and a great asymmetrical top. When going with a neutral, always look for that interesting detail to catch the eye.
When I tried it on, it absolutely reinforced my love at first sight. And even better, I already knew where it would make its inaugural appearance. Heading home just days later for my Parents’ 40th Anniversary celebration, I’d been struggling with what to wear for their anniversary dinner. But after I tried on the dress – bingo! We have a winner.
For the night out to a lovely Italian restaurant, I paired the dress with some great Nine West sandals I picked up on sale last summer (~$40) and the purple & gold earrings from my style cleanse slip. Perfecto!
So, dear readers. I’m going to depend on all of you to help keep me honest. $250 – Ella Moss purchase ($74.04 including tax) = $175.96 left to spend for August. Keep an eye on me, mon amies!
